Clark McPherson passed away at home on March 21, 2019. He was surrounded by his loved ones. His passing came on the last supermoon of the year, on the first full day of spring.
Clark was born in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi on September 7, 1947, before Hawaiʻi was a state. He was raised by Mary Lou McPherson in Manoa Valley and graduated from Punahou High School in 1965. Legend has it that he learned to swim before he could walk.
After a brief stint on the mainland for school, Clark returned to his roots on the North Shore. Clark later moved to Los Angeles, California in 1975, where he met his wife Audrey in 1977. In 2012, they retired to a beautiful home near Ojai, California to enjoy the good life close to the Ventura harbor.
Throughout his life, Clark was a surfer, fisherman, storyteller, boat builder, carpenter, friend, mentor, father, husband, volleyball player, and chef. Clark was happiest when near the ocean, whether checking the swell, exploring Baja, or taking long beach walks. He will be remembered most for his big heart, generous spirit, and unconditional loyalty.
Clark is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, and his daughter and son-in-law, Malia and Kyle. Clark also leaves behind many friends around the world — friends who are as close as family.
Clark faced the last year following his pancreatic cancer diagnosis with strength, selflessness, and love. In March, in a matter of weeks, his cancer became increasingly aggressive and ultimately claimed his life.
We will see you in the line up, Clark.
Memorial services will be held near Ventura and in Honolulu. Please submit notes of love, memories or photos to the Guestbook page of this site.
